Frequently Asked Questions?
  • Can the cellulose treated paper pads be cleaned?

Yes. The rigid cellulose pads used on all of our models and can be easily removed from the units for cleaning.
Use a constant stream of water and soft brush to carefully remove any dirt and mineral deposits. Refer to the
owner’s manual for more details about removal and cleaning of the pads.
  • Does the pads or air cooler have an odor? How to flush unit.

When the pads are new, a slight odor is normal. The odor will go away with a few days of use. If the air cooler produces any odors while in use, please try to following remedies:
    • Remove the pad(s) from the unit and wash with a constant stream of water for a few minutes.
    • Fill the tank with water, run in COOL mode for approx 30 minutes.
    • Drain the water from the tank, and repeat this procedure a few times. ( refer to the owner’s manual for details)
  • Can the pads be replaced?

Yes, the pads can be replaced. Please contact S.O.Ltd with the model number and type of unit eg. SO450 Calypso, SO900 Reggae Storm, SO18ATK Cyclone etc.
  • Does the air cooler need water to operate?

All SO evaporative air coolers can be operated in either FAN or COOL mode. In FAN mode the air cooler can be used as an air mover to provide relief cooling. However, to enjoy the benefits of evaporative cooling in COOL mode, all units require the water reservoir to be filled prior to operation.
  • Can the air cooler be operated without water?

Our portable evaporative coolers can be operated in either FAN or COOL mode. In FAN mode, the units do not require water. All SO evaporative air coolers come with low water level sensing to protect the pump when the water reaches the minimum level, however it is strongly recommended NOT to use the units in COOL mode without the proper amount of water in the reservoir. Doing so may damage the pump, shorten the life of the unit and invalidate any warranty.
  • What voltage does an SO Ltd evaporative air cooler operate with?

SO Ltd air coolers are available in either 120V or 240V single phase. Please carefully read your owners manual and the unit data label to confirm the voltage of your unit. Check the power cable on all portable units for the water proof decal indicating the operating voltage of that model. PLEASE NOTE; SO Ltd produce units with different configurations of two and three pin plugs. If you are not sure please contact SO Ltd for assistance.
  • Can the air cooler be used indoors?

Our range of portable evaporative coolers are great for cooling indoor and outside areas. Eg; kitchen, living room, office, bedroom, patios, workshops, foyers, sports events’, warehouses, etc.
  • How do you fill the cooler with water?

All of our portable evaporative coolers come equipped with a water fill door, located on the side of the unit. Models for outdoor use (SO3500 Tropical Storm range and SO18AMK Cyclone) also come with an external hose connector for continuous filling. Float valves or solenoid valves come pre-installed. Refer to the owner’s manual for adjustment of float valve, connections of hose adapter and any additional operators instructions.
  • How often do I need to clean and maintain my evaporative air cooler?

Regular maintenance will extend the life and efficiency of the evaporative cooler. Draining the water reservoir and
refilling with fresh water at least once a week will greatly reduce mineral deposits in the pads and the reservoir and
help to extend not only the life of pads, but also the effectiveness of the units. Do not leave stale water in the
reservoir for an extended period of time. For maintenance information, please refer to your owner’s manual or
    contact S.O.Ltd
  • How does an evaporative cooler save energy and money?

Evaporative cooling is the natural way of cooling using only water evaporation. Compared to conventional refrigerated
air conditioning, an evaporative air cooler consumes appox 70 - 90% less electricity than traditional air conditioning units.
Not only will evaporative cooling save money on your electricity bill, it is an natural and healthy
